Labelled 1,4ODidesmethyl racNiranthin is an intermediate in the synthesis of racNiranthin N481000 , a lignan compound isolated from the plant Phyllanthus amarus and shows antileishmanial activity. It acts through induction of topoisomerase Imediated DNAprotein adduct formation in Leishmania cells triggering apoptosis of cellular nucleases. It also maintains the ability to reduce uric acid concentrations through xanthine oxidase inhibition.
