1-Methylpiperazine is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Other chemical names which are used to denote this reagent include, N-Methylpiperazine, 4-Methylpiperazine and N-methyl piperazine. It is available in the form of a light-yellow coloured, clear liquid, with a boiling point of 138C. It is stable as long it is stored as per the recommended storage conditions. Burning or prolonged exposure to heat or flammable sources may produce hazardous decomposition products like carbon oxides and nitrogen oxides. It is incompatible with acids, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, strong oxidizing agents and carbon dioxide (CO2). It is hygroscopic in nature, hence necessary precautions must be taken while storing this reagent. 1-Methylpiperazine is flammable and may cause burns in certain cases. Piperazines are also used in the manufacture of plastics, resins, pesticides, brake fluid and other industrial materials. Amine blends that are activated by concentrated piperazine are used extensively in commercial CO2 removal for carbon capture and storage.
