The reagent is available as a colourless liquid which is poorly soluble in water. It has a melting point of 15.9 C and a boiling point of 218.0 C. This compound is generated from the nitration of m-xylene, followed by hydrogenation. The compound is stable under general conditions, however, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
