Benedicts uric acid reagent by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. This is a chemical reagent mixture of sodium carbonate, sodium citrate and copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate as well as potassium thiocyanate. It is a deep blue coloured solution. The test is based on the principle that reducing sugars when heated in the presence of an alkali, are converted to powerful reducing species known as enediols. These enediols reduce the cupric compounds present in the Benedict's reagent to cuprous compounds which are precipitated as insoluble red copper (I) oxide (Cu2O).
