The reagent is available as a white powder which is insoluble in water and soluble in some organic solvents. It has a melting point of 48.5 C and a boiling point of 305.4 C. While this reagent is stable under general conditions, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. Benzophenone can be generated by the copper-catalysed oxidation of diphenylmethane with air.
