It exhibits an odour similar to a sweet light orange peel oil with a floral note. It consists of a complex mixture of organic substances, particularly volatile terpenes, esters, alcohols and aldehydes, and non-volatile compounds which are oxygenated heterocyclic compounds, coumarins and furanocoumarins. The oil is extracted mechanically using peeler and scraper machines.
