The reagent is available as a grayish-white powder which is poorly soluble in water. It has a melting point above 500 C. Copper(II) sulphide can be generated by passing hydrogen sulphide gas into a solution of copper(II) salt. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
