Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids omega3-PUFAs are known to inhibit carcinogenesis, tumour growth and metastasis, whereas omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids omega6-PUFAs stimulate their effects. The FAT1 gene of C. elegans encodes a omega3-desaturase that catalyses the conversion of omega6-PUFAs to omega3-PUFAs, increasing the amount of omega3-PUFAs. Fat-1 Stable SiHa Cell Line expresses the full-length FAT1 gene from C. elegans through stable transfection. These cells are applicable for studies investigating the effects of endogenous omega3-polyunsaturated fatty acids.
