Fehlings solution A by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. This reagent mixture is an aqueous solution of copper(II) sulphate pentahydrate crystals. The reagent is available as a blue coloured solution. It is mixed with Fehlings B solution to obtain the proper Fehlings reagent. For best performance, it is advised that the reagents be used prior to expiry. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. This reagent is used in Fehlings test, generally to test for reducing sugars and non-reducing sugars, and also to distinguish between water-soluble carbohydrate and ketone functional groups. This reagent can be applied to screen for glucose in urine, thus detecting diabetes. It can additionally be used to determine the dextrose equivalent (DE) of starch sugar. This reagent is suitable for the industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
