Immortalized Rat Bone Cell Line (IRC10-30 Myc-3)

Description

These novel bone cell lines were established by immortalizing an osteoblastic clonal cell population with avian v-mycOK10 gene. Although both cells are from the same clonal population, T0216 and T0217 have differing properties. T0217 does not express AP, shows no PTH responsiveness, and synthesizes only about one-third as much collagen as T0216 4 versus 12 % of total protein synthesis . However, T0217 can be induced to synthesize cAMP by PGE2 and produces osteocalcin mRNA. Cells are osteogenic, form cartilage and fibrous tissue, and have multipotential differentiation capacity and form bone and cartilage in vivo.
