Description
Loeffler Serum Medium Base is used for the cultivation of Corynebacterium diphtheriae. This medium promotes primary and secondary isolation and cultivation of fastidious pathogenic bacteria, particularly those from the nose and throat. It also recovers virulence and other distinguishing characteristics that have been lost due to prolonged incubation or repeated subculturing. With added bovine serum, it is used for the cultivation of Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It is also used to demonstrate pigmentation and ascospores.
