Methyl paraben by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high-grade reagent. Also known as Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate or Methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and Nipagin, it is basically a methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is usually available in the form of colourless crystals or while crystalline powder. It has limited solubility in water (2.5g/l at 25C) but is highly soluble in alcohol. It has a boiling point of 270.5C and a melting point between 125-128C. This reagent is stable under ordinary conditions, though one must avoid contact of heat or any flammable sources. Methyl paraben is incompatible with strong oxidizers.
