Penicillin amidase EC 3.5.1.11 Penicillin acylase is an enzyme that cleaves the acyl side chains of penicillins. Penicillin amidase can be used for the production of 6-aminopenicillanic acid. Penicillin amidase can also be used in the resolution of racemic mixtures, peptide synthesis, and synthesis of semi-synthetic ?-lactam antibiotics.
