Double Junction Electrode Filling Solution must be used in the outer chamber of a double junction reference electrode for pH or ion measurement, in situations where Potassium Chloride or Potassium Nitrate should not be used. Chloride Cl- anions can form insoluble precipitates with Hg++, Cu++, Ag+ or Pb++ which will block the diaphragm of a single junction reference electrode.
