Tannic acid by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. This is a specific form, a polyphenol of tannin. The reagent is available as a powder which is soluble in water. The compound decomposes above 200 C. Tannic acid can be extracted from Tara pods (Caesalpinia spinosa) among other plants. While this reagent is stable under general conditions, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing reagents. It finds applications in the organic synthesis of various derivative compounds. Tannic acid is widely used in the chemical staining of wood, and is already present in woods like oak, walnut, and mahogany. It is furthermore a mordant used in the dyeing process for cellulose fibers such as cotton, and is often combined with alum and/or iron. Tannic acid is also incorporated in as process aids in beer clarification, aroma compound in soft drinks and juices. It is also utilized to improve the wash fastness properties of acid dyed polyamide. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
