The reagent is available as a powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 210 C. Xylenol orange appears red in the titrand and turns yellow once it reaches its endpoint. The compound is stable under general conditions, however, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. It is moisture sensitive and must be stored carefully.
