The reagent is available as an off-white to yellow crystalline powder which is soluble in sodium hydroxide. It has a melting point of 208 to 210 C. The compound is stable under general conditions, however, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. As a plant growth hormone it is widely used to stimulate plant growth in agricultural and tissue culture applications. When combine with 1 ppm of auxin, zeatin promotes callus initiation. It promotes the setting of fruits when sprayed after plants blossom. Zeating also retards the yellowing of fruits. It may additionally be applied to stimulate germination of seeds and seedling growth. It has furthermore displayed several anti-aging effects on human skin fibroblasts. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
